CCI Statement on the 2025 Ontario Election

As Ontario’s election campaign kicks off, the stakes for the province’s economy have never been higher.

Ontario’s next government will play a critical role in shaping the province’s economic trajectory. Business leaders are calling for bold leadership and a clear plan to support growth, scale domestic firms, and safeguard the province’s competitiveness. Voters deserve a vision for long-term prosperity—one that ensures Ontario remains a strong player in an increasingly uncertain global economy.

On behalf of CEOs leading Ontario’s fastest-growing companies, Skaidra Puodžiūnas, CCI’s Director of Ontario Affairs, issued the following statement, as the election kicks off:

“This election comes at a pivotal moment for Ontario’s economy. In addition to domestic pressures, escalating trade tensions with our largest trading partner threaten key industries and the competitiveness of Ontario businesses. The stakes are high, and Ontario needs a clear and bold economic strategy to support homegrown innovation, scale domestic companies, and strengthen our province’s resilience.

“Voters will be closely evaluating party platforms, which are expected to focus on affordability, job creation, healthcare, and economic growth. Business leaders are particularly focused on how the next government will navigate the looming economic headwinds and ensure Ontario’s innovation ecosystem remains globally competitive.

“Ontario’s next government has a unique opportunity to make innovation a cornerstone of its economic agenda. We urge all parties to present ambitious plans that prioritize scaling homegrown companies, investing in future-defining industries, and fostering an environment where Ontario innovators can thrive on the world stage.”

To help shape this vital conversation, the Council of Canadian Innovators (CCI) will soon release its platform recommendations document, What Ontario Innovators Need to Scale. This comprehensive guide will provide actionable recommendations from CCI’s membership of high-growth companies that are scaling globally while proudly maintaining their headquarters in Ontario. The document will outline the policies and initiatives needed to support innovation, strengthen economic resilience, and ensure Ontario remains competitive on the world stage.
