Ontario government publishes Digital ID framework details

September 7, 2021

Today the Ontario government published new details on the technology and standards of the digital government identification system.

In response to the announcement, Alanna Sokic, CCI’s government relations manager in Ontario, made the following statement:

“We are excited to see the Ontario government take a significant step toward building important digital infrastructure to enable the 21st century software and data economy. The right Ontario Digital ID can streamline services for citizens and businesses, while also creating new opportunities for homegrown Canadian technology companies to interface with the government.

“Publishing information about the technology and standards guiding the digital identity system is a good step, and I thank Kaleed Rasheed, Associate Minister of Digital Government, for taking the time to speak with me today to share further details about the government’s plans. The success or failure of this project will depend on how the government engages with the province’s innovation ecosystem, leveraging the expertise of innovators throughout the process.”
