CCI Statement on the Official Start of the 2025 Federal Election
March 23, 2025
Today, Prime Minister Mark Carney met with Governor-General Mary Simon to formally trigger a federal election. Election day will be on Monday, April 28, and for the next five weeks, Canada will be in the midst of a federal election campaign.
CCI’s Director of Federal Affairs, Daniel Perry, issued the following statement on behalf of our membership of more than 165 high-growth, Canadian-headquartered companies regarding the upcoming election campaign:
“This federal election campaign is happening under the shadow of the American trade war, and all Canadian voters will be asked to think about our country’s national strategy for economic resilience and sovereignty in the years to come. Innovative Canadian companies have the capacity to be the engine of productivity growth and wealth creation — indeed, they are already doing this.
“As highlighted in our pre-election policy brief, “What Innovators Need to Scale,” there are key policies and programs the next federal government must adopt to drive innovation and economic growth at this pivotal moment. We encourage all parties and candidates to reflect on these ideas, as they present their economic vision throughout the election campaign.”
