CCI Statement on the Alberta Data Centre Framework
December 4, 2024
Today, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Technology and Innovation Minister Nate Glubish announced a new Data Centre Framework, intended to make Alberta a destination for large scale computing infrastructure. In response to the news, CCI Director of Prairie Affairs Jess Sinclair made the following statement on behalf of our members:
"In the modern global economy, the companies that create the greatest wealth effects are the firms which control and commercialize intangible assets like data and intellectual property. High-growth innovative companies are the engines of wealth creation and high-paying jobs. For exactly this reason, CCI has been calling on the government to develop a comprehensive and forward-looking data strategy.
"As the government continues to develop its Data Centre Framework, and broader economic development plans, we hope to see a greater emphasis on supporting the homegrown Alberta companies that are best positioned to create substantial benefits for the local economy."
