CCI Statement on the 2025 Saskatchewan Budget
March 19, 2025
Today in Regina, Finance Minister Jim Reiter delivered the 2025 Saskatchewan Budget, emphasizing affordability programming and projecting a modest forecasted surplus of $12 million over the next fiscal year.
In response to the budget, CCI’s Director of Prairie Affairs, Jess Sinclair, issued the following statement on behalf of our members:
"Minister Reiter’s budget acknowledges the economic challenges Saskatchewan businesses face, including tariff pressures from both the United States and China. The best long-term strategy for the province is to invest in high-value, innovative growth. Now is the time for Saskatchewan to prioritize its homegrown winners, and bet on Canadian success.
"We’re encouraged that the province is maintaining funding for its patent box program and expanding participation, strengthening domestic IP capacity—an essential driver of wealth in the 21st-century economy.
"However, while Premier Scott Moe pledged to double Saskatchewan’s tech workforce during the 2024 campaign, Budget 2025 reduces funding for some labour market and retention programs due to a decline in federal support. The $23 million allocated for credentialed skills training at post-secondary institutions is a positive step, but we urge the government to prioritize training that equips workers with the skills needed to compete and succeed in the data-driven economy.
"Despite these challenges, we look forward to working with the Moe government to develop strategies that drive Saskatchewan’s long-term economic success."
