CCI Statement on Canada’s New Prime Minister and Cabinet
March 14, 2025
Today in Ottawa, Mark Carney was sworn-in as prime minister of Canada, and he unveiled changes to the federal cabinet. On behalf of our members, more than 150 homegrown scale-up technology companies from coast-to-coast, CCI Director of Federal Affairs Daniel Perry issued the following statement:
"On behalf of our members, I’d like to congratulate Mark Carney on becoming Canada’s 24th Prime Minister. I’d also like to welcome Minister Anita Anand to her new role as Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry and congratulate Minister Champagne on becoming Canada’s new Finance Minister.
“In the face of the American trade war, Canada must be working to defend our sovereignty and pursue strategies that build greater economic resilience. Innovative Canadian companies have the capacity to be the engine of productivity growth and wealth creation — indeed, they are already doing this.”
“As we outlined in our pre-election policy brief — “What Innovators Need To Scale” — there are policies and programs that the federal government can embrace, in order to drive innovation and growth at this critical time. We hope that Prime Minister Carney and his team will embrace these ideas, as they outline their vision economic in the election campaign ahead.”
